“Forever Highway” is the second single off Boulder Colorado’s The Drunken Hearts new album, Reckless Ways of Living that drops June 2nd (Pre-Save Album Here). The track (Pre-Save Here) features some mainstays of the scene including Lindsay Lou, Kyle Tuttle, Vince Herman, and Silas Herman.
Telluride Bluegrass isn’t your typical music festival. It’s steeped in tradition and community in ways that very few others are. This sense of community permeates every aspect of the festival, from the musicians to the Planet Bluegrass team to the thousands of people that circle this weekend on their calendar every summer.
Saturday night marked the return of the mighty Phil Lesh to the stage of the majestic amphitheater. The lots were full early, and with the near perfect weather and the Cinco De Mayo holiday, it felt a bit like a FESTIVAL! It almost goes without saying that a huge contingent in the crowd were Deadheads, both grey-haired and baby-faced, some of whom may have been in attendance 40 years ago when Phil first played The Rocks with The Grateful Dead.
This summer, Kauffman, Aijala and Johnston have joined forces with nearly everyone, and this year’s Kinfolk Celebration only solidified this notion, bringing in the fall season with a BANG. Marking the 1-year anniversary of the devastating flooding that took place in the Front Range last September, this year’s Kinfolk brought us hours of original tunes, impressive renditions and one-of-a-kind collaborations, and proved that our local community is stronger than ever.
Telluride Bluegrass. Once you’ve been there, whether it’s for a day, a week, or forty consecutive years, it becomes part of you. It’s the smiles on the faces of the performers as they look out from the stage over the most beautiful landscape their songs and melodies have ever echoed across. It is the meticulous, almost anal-retentive, organization of the event that somehow translates to a vibe conducive to dancing and singing and a passionately laid-back attitude from some of the most fervent music lovers anywhere.
The Denver sunshine, the Rocky Mountain backdrop, the beautiful music, the beer and the Mary Jane made 4/20 outside of Cervantes’ on Sunday a holiday for the books. We were treated to four sets of music from an impressive array of Colorado’s finest and most talented musicians as we all celebrated the freedom and love we Coloradans are so lucky to enjoy every single day.
Last year’s WinterWonderGrass was held at a small, but inviting brewery in Edwards, CO. The immensely positive rating from the attendees led the creator Scott Stoughton to move the festival to Snowball’s old stomping ground at Nottingham Park in Avon, CO. The new fairgrounds for the 2014 WinterWonderGrass gave enough space for the mountain dwellers to move and groove to the enchanting sound of the strings, while providing even larger beer tents—another draw of the festival.
No more pussy footin’ around about it. Leftover Salmon is no longer on hiatus —that ended years ago. And this year they will officially shelve the “reunion” status they’ve been playing under since they started dabbling in shows again in 2007. No, in 2012 Leftover Salmon doesn’t need a qualifier for their status. For the first time since 2002, the band is simply that — a band — firing on all cylinders with a tour schedule of more than 60 dates lined up for the year.
