PICK OF THE WEEK: Jason Isbell – Bluebird Theatre – Wednesday, September 4th

Estimated read time 2 min read

It has been a dozen years since Jason Isbell showed up at a party and left in the Drive-By Truckers’ van with two travel days to learn their songs. After 6 productive years with The Truckers, Isbell went out on his own and his solo career has seemed effortless since. Loud records, unrepentantly southern, resplendent with careful songwriting. Isbell will be performing this Wednesday at the Bluebird Theater.

Drive-By Truckers – April 12th – The Boulder Theater

Estimated read time 2 min read

While the Boulder Theater was not packed for the Drive-By Truckers two-night run any newcomer could see that the band has a very dedicated fan base as most folks sang along with every word the Country Rockers cranked out. While Patterson Hood remained a center of attention with soaring guitar solos and his roaring voice and Mike Cooley countrified things a bit with some steady finger-picking and vocals reminiscent of Johnny Cash or Merle Haggard, the newest member, bassist Matt Patton, seemed to be having the most fun.

Mike Cooley (of Drive-By Truckers) – February 24th – Larimer Lounge

Estimated read time 4 min read

A blizzard hangover didn’t stop a group of flannel-wearing fans of Alt-Country Rock band Drive-By Truckers from making their way to the Larimer Lounge last Sunday afternoon. Following his Saturday night solo show on the same stage, tickets for DBT’s lead guitarist Mike Cooley’s BBQ show were in high demand. It was Sunday Funday at its best – BBQ, gritty Country Rock music, and no-holds-barred stories from the one and only Mike Cooley of Drive-By Truckers.

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit – August 28th – The Bluebird

Estimated read time 5 min read

Over the last several years Jason Isbell has been a busy man, touring regularly and releasing a pair of albums. Despite the departure of his lead guitarist Browan Lollar, all that writing effort and saddle time was evident last Tuesday when the band came out as a tight cohesive unit from the first lick and didn’t back off until they finished the show that featured a nice mix of his new material and tunes he wrote with the the Drive-By Truckers. Simply put, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit are the real deal.

Drive-By Truckers – March 9th – The Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Drive-By Truckers started their spring tour with a one night drive-by at the Ogden Theatre last Friday. From the moment front-man Patterson Hood took the stage armed with a 750ml bottle of Patron Silver, we knew things were going to be rowdy and boy were they ever. “Fourth Night of Drinking” kicked off a show that featured fan favorites “3 Dimes Down,” “Used to be a Cop,” and “Self-Destructive Zones.” When it was all over and the dust had cleared, the Truckers had yet again left their Colorado faithful fully satisfied.

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit – June 9th – The Larimer Lounge

Estimated read time 5 min read

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit took a crowd of Southern Boys and Hipsters on a real roller-coaster ride of pretty epic proportions as they thrilled us with amazing, high energy rock and lulled us gently with tender country flavored ballads that tugged at heart strings. The setlist cherry picked many of the gifted songwriters best tunes and reached all the way back to some of the first ones he wrote during his days with The Drive-By Truckers.
