Turbonegro – May 20th – The Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

There must have been a ship docked at 935 E Colfax on Monday night, because as I walked up to the Ogden Theater I became engulfed in a sea of boys and girls wearing denim and sailor caps. A bit surreal since we were all awash with the neon of Colfax, and not the Pacific Ocean which was over 1,000 miles away. Learning to embrace the odd lately, I decided if KISS can have army of fans then Turbonegro can have its navy of fans.

Fox Street Allstars (CD Release Party) – March 2nd – Larimer Lounge

Estimated read time 6 min read

The Larimer Lounge is a dive bar, pure and simple; it’s a little out of the way, wires hang from the low ceiling, and the walls are plastered with simple posters for upcoming shows, but last Saturday it was transformed into a Southern Juke Joint when Fox Street Allstars threw the album release party for their sophomore album Tough Talk. The sounds of R&B, Funk, and gritty, Whiskey soaked Rock-n-Roll spilled out on the street all night as the temperature inside climbed and bodies rubbed together on the dancefloor.

Marco Benevento – January 19th – Quixote’s True Blue

Estimated read time 7 min read

Imagine you are sitting at a poker table in an old west saloon. Marco Benevento is playing piano. Eyes around the table twitch, the all-night girls beckon from the balconies, hands slide uneasily over six shooters under the table. When someone is caught cheating the table is upended, poker chips and whiskey fly through the air, Benevento’s thunderous riff comes in signaling the hero to run for his horse tethered outside and ride through the desert. Get ready for a wild ride!

My Morning Jacket delivered a mind-blowing three and a half hour performance on Saturday night at Red Rocks that is sure to go down in the record books as one of the best shows to ever take place at the hallowed venue. From the first notes of “At Dawn” to the final notes of “One Big Holiday,” Jim James and the rest of the band demonstrated time and again why they are the best live band touring today. It was a truly majestic performance that seemed tailor made for the venue.

Daniele AteThe Sandwich Talks Songwriting & Sarah McLachlan

Estimated read time 8 min read

Daniele Ate the Sandwich began charming the socks off The Front Range over four years ago, and her new album shows us a more mature, yet just as adorable side of the Ukulele-wielding Folk singer. Like A King is Danielle Anderson’s fourth full length album, and the well-produced and detailed sound reflects how far this young artist with an old soul has come. Listen Up Denver! had the chance to catch up with Colorado native Anderson, and she shared some introspective thoughts with us.
