YAMN – February 15th – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

YAMN is a rock band rooted in psychedelic jams, but the best way to convey what they do is to call them a “party band”…and they are probably one of Denver’s best. Their live show is far from predictable and their originals sound like they were created during vision quests in the desert. After a year long break from performing, the intensity of last Friday’s performance at The Bluebird proved that YAMN is back in a big way.

Calexico & Bahamas – January 19th – The Bluebird

Estimated read time 3 min read

The Bluebird had visitors from the relaxed north and the sizzling south when Bahamas and Calexico came to the crown jewel of the west last week. The sold-out show drew folks who came to get “Lost In The Light” by soaking up the sweetly simple sounds of opener Bahamas, and those who came to pound “Corona” and get rude and rambunctious in the process. It was an interesting mix of two worlds that did not overlap, but definitely collided on account of the crowded room.

Just outside of Fort Collins, four sisters fill a family home with sounds only siblings could make. Combining Classical structure with Folk lyrics, Country catchiness, Bluegrass beauty and an intense passion, SHEL (Sarah, Hannah, Eva, Liza) is band full of depth and delight. Only one album deep into what is sure to be a lengthy career, SHEL has already found success without necessarily looking for it.
