Church was in session Sunday night as Maceo Parker and his band of Funk-fueled musicians took Denverites on a journey to the early days of Funk. The huge room at Cervantes’ was pretty empty early on, leaving those who arrived in time for Analog Son wondering why people were opting to stay in rather than see a legend like Maceo take the stage in such a small club. Halfway through the night, fans of the Funk had come out of the woodwork and the saxophone was preaching to the congregation.

This weekend, pioneers of Trancefusion Rock, The Disco Biscuits return to Denver for another 3 night run. Despite some turbulence and turmoil in locking in a venue, the Philadelphia based quartet will once again play the Ogden. We spoke with keyboardist Aron Magner about the Biscuits love for Colorado, what makes The Ogden so special, the joys of collaboration and, among other things, his Hobbit like feet.

Grammy winners Snarky Puppy may have headlined the Ogden on August 3rd, but it was Denver’s own Analog Son that stole the show and put on a Funkin’ clinic. The minute Analog Son hit the stage, the place started jumping. As the band’s set unfolded, the one constant on the stage was soul. You could feel it building in the bombastic bass lines Josh Fairman laid down all the way up to the lovely Kim Dawson who added a roof of pure Soul which she promptly blew right off!

Analog Son is a VERY Funky band created by Jordan Linit (Kinetix/Ableminds) and Josh Fairman (Kinetix) in 2013 around a studio project involving the Shady Horns, Ryan Zoidis and Eric Bloom (Lettuce/Soulive), Joe Tatton (New Mastersounds), Adam Deitch (Lettuce/Break Science), Mike Marlier, Joey Porter (Motet/Juno What?!), and Joel Scanlon. Day two of the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival features The Grand Tasting, where thousands of concert goers swill free craft beer for hours, in order to determine the best beer in the box canyon that Saturday. Mud splattered and squished as festival goers wet their whistles with the wares of over 50 craft Breweries. We are excited to say that our buddies over at Telluride Brewing Company were the “Best of Fest-Grand Tasting Champions” this year!!!
