Railroad Earth – August 1st – Boulder Theater

Estimated read time 8 min read

For the third year in a row, New Jersey’s Railroad Earth graced the stage for what is the highlight of the summer music season at the Boulder Theater. A long-awaited show, the tone for the evening had been set long before our arrival, and the anticipation of something incredible was heavy in the air. In a theater now almost too small for the band’s ever-expanding repertoire, the boys of Railroad Earth were free to do a little experimentation on this magical evening in Boulder.

Ratdog – July 12th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 2 min read

Ratdog is an ever evolving beast that has just been resurrected from a long hibernation to set out on the first national tour in years, a tour that landed at Ogden Theatre for a intimate night with the band. The lineup changes have altered the musical face of the band a lot, employing the fabled guitar skills of Steve Kimock on lead playing Jerry licks, and a reunion of original founder and bass player, Rob Wasserman, on stand-up while keeping Robyn Sylvester on electric bass too for the most thunderous Ratdog to date.

Dark Star Orchestra – July 4th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 6 min read

This Fourth of July, the boys (and girl) of Dark Star Orchestra transported us to the year 1989, to the Omni Coliseum in Atlanta, Georgia. Deadheads young and old were in attendance, and the floor of the Ogden was a sea of tie-dye vintage t-shirts, representing the Grateful Dead and Dark Star Orchestra alike. The result was an incredibly satisfying night of music, soul, dance, love and of course, independence. It was a very merry Fourth of July indeed. Keep on keepin’ on.

Gov’t Mule & Vintage Trouble – November 5th – Ogden

Estimated read time 5 min read

Vintage Trouble and Gov’t Mule shared the stage at The Ogden last week in front of a packed house of Southern boys, grizzled bikers and a smattering of hippies. It was the opener who left puddles of sweat on-stage as they served up vintage Blues, Rock and Soul with a fervor that is seldom equaled these days, but Warren Haynes and his band earned points for consistency as they delivered two monster sets of Rock and Blues that showcased the immense talent on stage.

Dark Star Orchestra – October 20th – The Fox Theatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

It’s amazing how music can change the mood of a crowd. Last Sunday Dark Star Orchestra closed their three-night run at the Fox Theatre and left the audience with a glaze of merriment despite the obvious tension that hung in the air in the beginning of the evening. The crowd went from sparse to bustling through the course of the show, and was diverse: families with small children, old hippies and new, and a big blue dancing bear showed up–now that’s some fan deadication.

Estimated read time 11 min read

Telluride lived up to the hype!!! There were howls at the “super moon,” tarp runs, tributes to one of our favorites, Levon Helm, new friends, and old friends. From The Mayor of Telluride, Mr. Sam Bush, to up-and-comers, Lake Street Dive, the music was top notch from morning till night. Was it all about the banjo? No. Was it all about music? No. Telluride Bluegrass is an experience and the best word to describe it is “legendary.”
