Fall Out Boy – June 23rd – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

In a moment instantly reminiscent of high school, sweaty X’ed hands rose above the barrier to the chanting of “Fall – Out – Boy!” Fresh off of a three-year hiatus, Fall Out Boy’s return to music brought a little something for both old fans and new at the Ogden. The band put on a hell of a show for their fans, who ate up every song. A younger fan was even overheard saying: “Wow, I’ve never been moved to tears by a concert before.”

Soundgarden – May 28th – 1st Bank Center

Estimated read time 4 min read

Following Tuesday’s “Evening With Soundgarden” at Colorado’s 1st Bank Center, it is clear that the nearly 15-year hiatus did nothing to hinder the band’s sound, chemistry, or performance. What the hiatus seems to have done is strengthened both the band and its fanbase – Knights of the Soundtable. It was readily apparent, (before the lights had gone down and the long-awaited Soundgarden took the stage), that for these fans, distance really had made all the difference.

The Darkness – February 1st – The Summit Music Hall

Estimated read time 4 min read

A rowdy crowd of rockers reliving their youth and a squeakier group in their prime came out last Friday night to party with The Darkness. A perfect mix of devotees in leather jackets, long hair and tattoos lined the barricade near the front of the stage at The Summit Music Hall. The Darkness is considered by many to be a “glam rock” band and while that may or may not be true, “Glam” IS rock, the ability to sell it is talent, and The Darkness has that in spades.

Medeski, Scofield, Martin and Wood – December 7th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 10 min read

It was a brisk Friday night on East Colfax. The streets felt electric and alive and the energy and animation outside The Ogden was no doubt an extension of what was about to take place inside as Medeski, Scofield, Martin, and Wood prepared to take the stage. MMW alone are a band that steps out into the whizzing traffic of the music world, refusing to yield to the traffic lights of convention. But add experimental Jazz guitarist John Scofield to the mix and you have a rebellion on your hands.

Scott Sharrard & The Brickyard Band

Estimated read time 3 min read

Scott Sharrard is one of an increasingly rare breed of musician in today’s popular music climate. Sharrard’s music follows in the tradition of classic Rhythm and Blues, but his sound and songs are such that it still sounds fresh and vital, like its happening now. While the music is a bit more guitar-oriented, fans of the more recent wave of Rhythm and Blues groups and artists like Raphael Saadiq, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, and Tedeschi Trucks Band would definitely find a lot to enjoy here.

Estimated read time 17 min read

Seven hours Southwest of Denver, nestled in a box canyon surrounded by steep cliffs and Aspen trees, lies an old mining town that has been the setting for many a magical musical memory. As its name implies, the Telluride Blues and Brews Festival was started 19 years ago to celebrate craft beer and a specific genre of music; but over the years the festival line-up has became more diverse, and this year’s festivities raised the bar and established Telluride Blues and Brews as a festival that ANY music lover would want to attend.
