PICK OF THE WEEK: Assembly Of Dust – Summit Music Hall – January 12th

Estimated read time 2 min read

Assembly of Dust has a sound that recalls the likes of The Band and Neil Young, but they have taken that early 70’s Americana sound and put their own contemporary spin on it. While they haven’t played Colorado in nearly three years, the band, fronted by former Strangefolk frontman Reid Genauer, should have no problem packing The Summit Music Hall when they come to town this weekend.

JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound – October 10th – The Larimer Lounge

Estimated read time 5 min read

Last week, the Chicago Soul powerhouse of JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound rolled into The Larimer Lounge for the second time this year and while this show didn’t pack quite the punch of their April throw-down, it did showcase Brooks’ amazing stage presence and vocal prowess as the group plowed through a 90 minute set for a modest school night crowd. The band seamlessly segued from banging dance numbers to soulful slow jams and Brooks never slowed the constant patter of witty and fast paced banter between songs.

Wilco’s Nels Cline Talks “The Art of Almost” and The Band’s Two Night Run At Red Rocks

Estimated read time 12 min read

Listen Up Denver! got to sit down with Cline as the band was in the midst of their spring tour. He had just crawled out of his bunk on a tour bus in southern Alabama and was sipping coffee as he stared out the window at the band’s crew playing football outside. For the most part, Cline is a regular guy, with regular problems and bills to pay just like the rest of us. The difference is, he pays those bills by playing guitar in Wilco.

If the puddles of sweat, flying hair, and looks of pure ecstatic joy on the faces of everyone in the room are any indicator, their sound strikes a chord with the soul and almost demands you move.

Megafaun Combines A Host Of Influences For A Rich Folk Sound

Estimated read time 3 min read

Six years ago, the band DeYarmond Edison called it quits. They had moved from Eau Claire, Wisc., to Raleigh, N.C. together a few years earlier; but that strong southern sun must have cast a different light on the paths in front of them. The group’s vocalist and guitarist, Justin Vernon, headed back to the woods of Wisconsin, while brothers Phil and Brad Cook decided to keep pickin’ in the pines along with drummer Joe Westerlund. The Tar Heel trio declared themselves Megafaun, while Justin Vernon went on to form Bon Iver.
