Desert Rocks Festival – June 8, 9, & 10 – Green River, UT

Nothing like a quick stop home to do some laundry and unload all your camping and photo gear, just to turn around and pack it back up less than 24 hours later. Listen Up Denver! is, after all, a Colorado music resource and with Colorado bands Elephant Revival, MTHDS, Euforquestra, Octopus Nebula, Tatanka, Atomga, James and The Devil, and more playing the Desert Rocks 2012 music festival, how could we not follow the setting sun and stream of band busses heading west?

G. Love Talks The Avett Brothers & Colorful Colorado

Fifteen albums and almost twenty years have passed since G. Love & Special Sauce was the house band at The Plough and Stars in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Garrett Dutton (aka G. Love) and his band’s enthusiasm for playing music and constant touring have steadily built a large and well deserved fan base across the country. You can catch their brand of Hip-Hop Blues this Saturday March 10th at The Ogden Theatre, or later this month on March 22nd at the Bud Light Street Beat in Vail.

The Motet – December 31st – The Aggie Theatre

An eager, party hungry, crowd gathered at The Aggie Theater Saturday evening to celebrate the end of 2011 with one of the most revered bands in Colorado music today, The Motet. The rang in the New Year with a lengthy set, clocking in at well over 2 hours, and they only cut the music a few times, instead opting to melt peoples brains with mind bending transitions. Quite simply this was one of best jam and free form concerts we’ve witnessed. To the Motet, we raise our glasses once again! Happy New Year!

Euforquestra – August 6th – Quixotes True Blue

Originally from Iowa City, Iowa, Euforquestra has called Colorado home for the last 3 years. This Fort Collins based band joyfully brings its progressive, genre-crossing funk fusions to the Colorado music scene. With three full length albums to their name, their set filled the dance floor with a blend of Afrobeat, Reggae, Afro-Cuban, Funk, and Dub.

Collegiate Peaks Music Festival, now in its 6th year, may just be the best little known music festival of 2011. This year a diverse line up of 14 bands took to the stage situated next to the Arkansas River and in the shadow of the Collegiate Peaks from July 28th – July 30th. Staying with tradition, CPMF remains a celebration of Colorado by featuring some of the best bands from around the state. Additionally, the festival recruits an eclectic selection of touring bands from all over the US.
