Cervantes’ threw their 12 year anniversary celebration this past weekend and it was Everyone Orchestra kicking off another year of musical delightment at everyone’s favorite Welton St ballroom. Everyone Orchestra was the band for both Friday and Saturday night, with local bands The Congress opening Friday and Deadphish Orchestra Saturday. On Saturday the scene was filled with excitement, patrons ready to celebrate. The line to get in was long and tight, regulars and newcomers waiting to push through to the party.

Fox Street is playing the Bluebird Theater on Friday and they are bringing their big band sound with them. For the last 8 or 9 years, their soulful mix of Rock, Funk, and R&B swing has made them a staple of the blossoming Denver music scene. Whatever words you need to describe The Congress’ contribution to the American music tradition – save your breath. The Congress play Rock & Roll. Rancho Del Rio was home to Campout for the Cause again this year. While over the years it had traveled downstream to the State Bridge venue, this year, founder and promoter, Scott Stoughton decided to return the festival to its roots by placing it back at the pseudo-shanty town/river paradise that sits against the back drop to the usually peaceful Colorado River. It didn’t turn out to be so peaceful this weekend, but we’ll get to that later.

There was a buzz outside The Bluebird on Saturday night and, fresh off a string of West Coast dates with the new darlings on the Indie-Folk scene Lake Street Dive, The Congress brought the heat for an adoring hometown crowd.
