Last Thursday’s late-summer evening with Gov’t Mule, moe. and Blackberry Smoke was a highly anticipated date on the Red Rocks calendar. Gregg Allman – October 13th – Boulder Theater

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Boulder Theater was charged last Tuesday night as longtime fans waited for the legendary Gregg Allman to take the stage before the nearly capacity crowd. While the majority of those who packed the beautiful Art Deco theater were silver haired and pushing 60 (and with seated tickets on the lower level priced at $90, that’s not a surprise) there was a healthy contingent of younger fans who had no doubt been brought up on Allman’s music and wanted to check this one off the bucket list.

Scott Sharrard & The Brickyard Band

Estimated read time 3 min read

Scott Sharrard is one of an increasingly rare breed of musician in today’s popular music climate. Sharrard’s music follows in the tradition of classic Rhythm and Blues, but his sound and songs are such that it still sounds fresh and vital, like its happening now. While the music is a bit more guitar-oriented, fans of the more recent wave of Rhythm and Blues groups and artists like Raphael Saadiq, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, and Tedeschi Trucks Band would definitely find a lot to enjoy here.

Furthur – September 22nd – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 2 min read

Furthur rolled into Colorado for a late summer run of shows at Red Rocks last week and though it was late in September, the weather was perfect for face melting. Bob Weir and Phil Lesh have surrounded themselves with a young, energetic group of players who have, with some sage guidance, re-animated the Grateful Dead catalog beautifully. They seemed to channel the energy of the ’89 Dead in both vigor and accuracy and even managed to breathe new life into “Dark Star.”
