Grace Potter & The Nocturnals – September 20th – Red Rocks

Estimated read time 6 min read

Last Saturday night at Red Rocks could have been the most perfect night on The Rocks all season. The beautiful late summer day gave way to evening that was just on the right side of chilly and the steps were filled with music fans of all ages. There were veteran rockers on hand to witness Grace Potter’s 70’s leaning Rock stylings; there were hipsters with an open ear for opener Lake Street Dive and their Jazzy brand of Folk-Pop; one thing was for sure, everyone knew this was a monster triple bill.

Beck – August 15th – Red Rocks

Estimated read time 6 min read

As the sun went down with one last blustery gasp and Red Rocks filled to capacity, there was an electricity in the air despite the fact that the crowd was all beer and joints. But Beck and his band were a different story. They came out of the gate with a kick, opening with the rollicking classic “Devil’s Haircut,” and it was all energy and shenanigans from there as the band rocketed around the stage like flying monkeys on amphetamines for much of the night. Three words: Bottle and Cans.

Devo – June 23rd – Summit Music Hall

Estimated read time 3 min read

The DEVOted were out adorned in their plastic power domes. Legend has it that the Dome Hat collects energy that escapes from the crown of the human head and pushes it back into the Medula Oblongata for increased mental energy. Not sure if Devo founding member Jerry Casales really had this in mind when they came up with the design or not, but I can tell you that the line to get in was abuzz with energy and anticipation for the night’s show.

Telluride Bluegrass Festival – June 19th-22nd – Telluride, CO

Estimated read time 14 min read

Telluride Bluegrass. Once you’ve been there, whether it’s for a day, a week, or forty consecutive years, it becomes part of you. It’s the smiles on the faces of the performers as they look out from the stage over the most beautiful landscape their songs and melodies have ever echoed across. It is the meticulous, almost anal-retentive, organization of the event that somehow translates to a vibe conducive to dancing and singing and a passionately laid-back attitude from some of the most fervent music lovers anywhere.
